Whether you are an ultra-modern bride or a more traditional one, a wedding veil will keep you beautifully in style.
Wedding veils come in different styles to suit all wedding themes; vintage, contemporary, modern to classic. We have divided wedding veils into 10 different styles and will take you through each style of veil in detail with tips and advice on how to style each type of veil, as well as the dress and hairstyle that they would suit best.
This is a classic and by far the most traditional style of wedding veil. One layer goes at the back of the bride’s head, ranging from shoulder length all the way to cathedral length. The second, shorter layer called blusher goes over the bride’s face and is usually around waist length.
A double-tiered veil will give you a classic look as you walk down the aisle. It also makes it possible to have the “lifting of the veil” moment during the ceremony.
WEDDING DRESS: This wedding veil comes in different designs and lengths making it very versatile. A bride with any wedding theme can go for this veil as it is a timeless classic look.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: You can wear a double-tiered veil with any hairstyle, but the ideal hairstyle would be the one that allows you to wear the veil at the crown of your head or it will look bulky.
One-tier is a modern evolution of the traditional double-tiered wedding veil above. This veil is for a bride who doesn’t want to cover her face for the ceremony, but still wants the added drama of a veil from the back. This veil can be any length; from short to long.
WEDDING DRESS: This veil is even more versatile than a double-tiered veil. It is one layer that stays behind the bride’s shoulders and doesn’t “interfere” in any way with the look of the bride’s dress from the front. It still creates drama, flow and romance from the back.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: This veil can go absolutely anywhere which makes it super versatile.
Made famous by Grace Kelly and more recently by Kate Middleton, the drop veil has zero gathering at the comb. The tulle is sewn flat to the comb to avoid any volume, and it sits flat when draped over your head. It is a very soft, delicate and classic look that is equally modern. It is perfect for any bride who doesn't want a "poofy" veil.
WEDDING DRESS: The drop veil creates a very soft and feminine look. Perfect for brides with soft, flowing gowns. Being a newer style, it can perfectly work for a more modern bridal look as well.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: Finding the right wedding hairstyle can be tricky if you’re wearing a drop veil (which we love). The challenge is the veil can flatten your hair. With a drop veil you have to find a wedding hairstyle with a low profile.
A drop veil will work best with a hairstyle that allows for the comb (if attached to the veil) to be inserted at the crown area. Also, an unsecured drop veil (with no comb) gives a lovely cascading effect. It can be secured in the back with veil pins.
A traditional Spanish wedding veil is with either an all-over lace (more typical for authentic Spanish brides) or a thicker lace trim along its edge. A Mantilla Veil is different from one or double-tiered lace edge veils in that it is cut in an oval, ungathered (like a drop veil), and can be worn as a one-tier veil or as a drop blusher veil.
WEDDING DRESS: The Mantilla is a very striking wedding veil style. It can be used to create an exotic, Mediterranean look. A Mantilla veil can be worn with a lace gown or a simple classic style.
No blusher option: Mantilla drop veils work best by placing the lace trim across the hairline and securing it in the back of the head with veil pins. As long as the hairstyle you choose can accommodate that, you should have no problems.
Mantilla veil with a blusher: Place the veil slightly further back near the crown. If the Mantilla veil you choose does not have a comb, then use veil pins to secure the veil. With this option you can reposition the veil later to wear as a single layer veil.
You can have a comb added in the middle of the veil so you can wear it with a blusher.
We have included a hidden comb under the lace of our EIFFEL VEIL so this now can only be worn as a one-layer veil style as shown, but is super-easy to pop into the hair. This veil is so long, even at the blusher, it can stay unsecured all by itself!
Our Capri, cape veil is made with illusion tulle and attaches seamlessly to the straps of a gown. The open back allows the cape to drape dramatically behind as you walk. This veil is perfect for a heavily embellished dress OR all lace wedding gown. The open back allows you to show off your low back gown.
Birdcage veils are made from Russian net or soft veiling tulle, covering only part of the face.
Since you don’t necessarily need to lift the veil off the face during the ceremony, you can keep yours on right through to the first dance. Isn’t that Awesome?
WEDDING DRESS: A birdcage veil, a vintage wedding theme suits bride with a chic sense of style. This veil paired with a tea-length dress or even jumpsuit, is perfect for an alternative bridal style.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: This veil is best suited to an up-do because of its distinctive vintage style and looks perfect with a matching retro hairstyle. Place it close to the crown of your head, letting the net reach just below your nose.
Also, an up-do is a much better base for a birdcage veil as it needs a bit of extra help by the way of hairgrips at either side to get the veil to sit perfectly and actually curve down over the forehead.
This wedding veil is exactly how it sounds…just a hint of veil, crafted with sheer tulle allowing for you and your dress to shine through. This single layer veil is cut in such a way as to reduce the amount of tulle near the comb giving a really sheer and ‘barely there’ appearance in the hair. As this wedding veil style is sheer and transparent, they usually don’t have very bold edgings; just a cut edge or a pencil edge. We love our most recent ‘barely there’ veil Milan scattered with flat back pearls, giving you the feeling that they’re in the hair itself!
WEDDING DRESS: The ‘barely there’ veil is quite a slim and narrow style and works best with dresses like sheaths and Fit & Flare.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: It is a single layer veil, so it’s the easiest wedding veil style in terms of hair placement.
A drape veil is one-tier veil with two separate combs worn on either side of the head connecting a draping section of tulle.
WEDDING DRESS: The drape wedding veil style is perfect for a vintage wedding theme. Ideally this style suits full-length veils that will trail gracefully beyond your dress's train as you move.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: Any hairstyle will go as long as there’s some resistance for two combs to work against. Completely loose hair might be a little challenging for your hairstylist.
A Juliet cap veil is one-tier wedding veil style where the veil forms a little ‘cap’ which fits snugly over the bride’s head and decorated with lace, flowers, pearls or semi-precious stones. Originally fashioned in the 16th Century. The name comes from Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.
WEDDING DRESS: If you are going for a bohemian bridal look of carefree elegance then the Juliet cap is for you. Kate Moss famously wore a Juliet cap veil for her wedding.
WEDDING HAIRSTYLE: Avoid too much height on top so as not to distort the cap. For Boho perfection.
THE SKULL CAP VARIATION Slightly more exaggerated version of the Juliet cap veil, the Skull cap veil completely encircles the head. For this veil style you will have to wear your hair up and tuck it all into the skull cap.
A bandeau veil, also known as Venetian or visor veil is a short, wedding veil. The veil covers a part of the bride's face and can be worn across the forehead, covering the hair partly, and is under 10 inches in height. Made from Russian net or a fine lightweight tulle, a bandeau veil is an easy bridal accessory that knows how to stand out and make an impact despite its small stature.
Bandeau veils can be confused with birdcage veils, but technically speaking birdcage veils are a different type of wedding veil.
A bandeau veil is perfect for you if your bridal look is vintage inspire.
